What's on the website audit checklist?

Four areas, each a question a customer would ask. Most SEO audits start from technical warnings. Ours starts from whether a customer can find you and get in touch.

  • Getting customers to contact youCan a customer on a phone reach you in one tap?5 checks
  • Showing up on GoogleCan Google list your site, and does it understand what you do and where?17 checks
  • Technical healthIs the site secure, fast and easy to use on a phone?6 checks
  • Trust and trackingDoes the site look cared for, and can you tell whether it brings in customers?2 checks

When we ran the same audit on 1,246 working Sri Lankan business websites, 42% gave phone visitors no one-tap way to get in touch and 62% gave Google no business details. Of those we speed-tested, 79% took more than 4 seconds to load on a phone. Read the study.

What does your report show?

What's costing you enquiries, in plain English, most important first.

  • A health score out of 100With a verdict in plain words, and how you compare with 1,246 Sri Lankan business websites.
  • Your top 3 prioritiesThe problems most likely to be costing you enquiries, in order. Not a list of 100 warnings.
  • Your most important fix, freeExplained step by step for your kind of website, or written up for your developer.
  • Google's phone speed testHow fast your homepage loads on a phone, measured by Google.

Want every problem explained? The Growth Plan adds a step-by-step guide for each one and a re-check every month.

Why is my website not showing on Google?

Usually for one of five reasons. The free audit tests for the common ones and tells you which applies to your site.

  • The site is new. Google finds new sites through links and can take days or weeks to list one.
  • A setting tells Google to leave it out. 2% of the working sites we checked (19) had this on their homepage.
  • The site doesn't work. 39% of the 2,061 websites listed in Sri Lankan directories were expired, down or broken.
  • Google can't tell what you do or where. 53% of working sites didn't make clear which town they serve, so for searches like "dentist kandy", Google shows other businesses.
  • It's listed, but below other businesses. Being on Google isn't the same as being near the top for the searches your customers type.

Is my website mobile friendly?

A mobile-friendly site fits a phone screen, can be read without zooming, has buttons big enough to tap, and loads quickly on mobile data. 8 in 10 devices used to go online in Sri Lanka are smartphones, so this is how most customers see you.

Of the Sri Lankan business websites we checked, 6% weren't set up for phone screens at all. Far more were slow: the typical site took 7.9 seconds to show its main content on Google's phone test, against Google's target of 2.5. The audit checks both, using Google's own PageSpeed Insights for speed.

What if I don't have a website?

We check your Google Business Profile instead, with 11 checks of its own, and compare it with other Sri Lankan businesses. See the Google profile check.

Questions about the website audit

What does a website audit check?

Ours checks 30 things in four areas: getting customers to contact you, showing up on Google, technical health, and trust. 7 of them exist because of how Sri Lankans search and get in touch, and global tools don't run them.

How do I run an SEO audit on my website?

Type your website address into our free check and you get a report in about a minute. It reads your site the way a visitor would and runs Google's own phone speed test. You don't need to install anything or know any SEO.

How long does the audit take?

About a minute. Google's phone speed test runs at the same time and fills in after your report appears.

Do you need my website password?

No. We only read public pages, the way any visitor would, and nothing on your website changes.

How accurate is it?

We compared our checker with a real Chrome browser on 50 random Sri Lankan business websites: 906 of its 918 results matched.

Will fixing these get me to #1 on Google?

No one can promise that, and Google's own guidance says so. The audit finds what stops Google and customers from understanding your business and getting in touch.
