Privacy policy
On this page
LankaRank is run by Afdhel Munaj in Sri Lanka. This page explains what we collect when you use the free check, why, who else handles it, how long we keep it, and how to see or delete it. We follow Sri Lanka's Personal Data Protection Act, No. 9 of 2022.
The short version
- Running a check needs no name, email or account.
- We only ask for contact details when you unlock your free fix or ask about a plan, and only use them for that.
- We never sell or share your details for marketing, and we only message you again if you tick the box.
- Ask us at any time and we'll delete your details.
What we collect
When you check a website
The address you type, and what our checker reads from that site's public homepage and files (such as robots.txt and sitemap.xml). We save the result as a report with its own link. Anyone you send that link to can open it, so only share it with people you want to see it.
When you check a Google profile
The business name and town you type, and the public details of the matching Google Maps listing (such as opening hours, phone number, and the number of photos and reviews).
When you unlock your free fix
Your email address, your phone number, the reason you chose for running the check, and whether you ticked "message me if something new needs fixing". We use these to follow up about your fix.
When you ask about a plan
Your name, WhatsApp number, business name (if you give it) and the plan you chose. We use these to message you on WhatsApp about that plan, as you agreed.
Your connection
To stop abuse (for example, one person running thousands of checks), we keep scrambled, one-way codes made from your IP address and from the lr_v cookie below. We can't turn them back into your IP address, and we clear them after 7 days.
What we don't collect
No passwords, no logins to your website or Google account, no advertising trackers, and no tracking across other websites.
Cookies and your browser
- lr_v: set when you run a check or send us a form. It holds a random code so we can count checks per browser, and people who share an internet connection don't use up each other's free checks. It expires after 30 days.
- fx: after you unlock a free fix, this cookie keeps your fixes unlocked in that browser for one year. It holds a random code, not your details.
- When you tick off fix steps, the ticks are saved in your own browser (local storage). They never reach us.
We don't use advertising or analytics cookies.
Who else handles your data
- Cloudflare hosts the site and our database. Your details may be stored on Cloudflare's servers outside Sri Lanka. Our forms also use Cloudflare Turnstile, which looks at technical details of your browser to tell people from bots. It doesn't receive what you type.
- Google receives the website address you check, to run its PageSpeed phone speed test.
- DataForSEO receives the business name and town you type, to find your Google Maps listing.
None of them receive your email address or phone number from us. We don't sell or rent anyone's details.
How long we keep it
- Reports: 12 months, so a shared report link keeps working. Then they're deleted.
- Free-fix and plan details: 24 months from when you gave them, or sooner if you ask. If you become a customer, we keep what we need for invoices and accounts for as long as the law requires.
- The scrambled IP and browser codes: 7 days.
Deletion runs automatically every day.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- show you the details we hold about you;
- correct them;
- delete them;
- stop messaging you (or just reply "stop" to any message).
Contact us at contact@lankarank.lk or on WhatsApp at +94788998587. We'll reply within 21 working days. If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Authority of Sri Lanka.
Security
Every page is served over a secure (https) connection. Only the people who run LankaRank can see contact details, and our admin pages are protected by a password.
Children
LankaRank is for business owners and is not meant for anyone under 18.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use details you've already given us, we'll ask you first.
